Isotrex is a topical gel used to treat both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne vulgaris. Isotrex contains the active ingredient isotretinoin, a retinoid similar to Vitamin A.

Isotrex works by removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin (exfoliating). This unblocks the pores, which reduces spots and acne. It also loosens blackheads and whiteheads so that they can be easily removed and prevents new one being formed.
Ensure the skin has been gently washed and is dry before applying. Apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily. Remember to wash your hands before and after application and do not use in conjunction with anything containing benzoyl peroxide. If you do require combination therapy, ensure that you apply the two products during different times of the day.

Apply Isotrex sparingly and allow for 6-8 weeks of isotrex therapy before experiencing any progress.

You must also ensure to avoid the mouth, eyes, nostrils and any area of broken skin like cuts and grazes. Sunburnt skin is very delicate so avoid applying here as well.

The effects of duac will become apparent in about 2-5 weeks of regular daily use, with a full potential being reach after about 8-12 weeks. You should not use this product for more than 12 weeks

Prior to purchase, Duac is stored in the refrigerator. Once you receive the item, you can store it at room temperature but must remember to discard it after two months at your nearest pharmacy.
  • Skin irritation
  • Dry skin
  • Exfoliation

Upon using Isotrex, if your skin appears or feels irritated then treatment should be discontinued. Isotrex can also increase sensitivity to light so must not be applied during sunbed usage.

Isotrex must not be used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and must be kept well away from any open flames, as it is highly flammable.

You can find out more about these symptoms by speaking to your doctor or getting in touch with our experts.

There are several therapies for acne that do not require you to take medication:
  • Comedone extractor - a small pen-shaped instrument that is used to clean out blackheads and whiteheads
  • Chemical peels - a chemical solution is applied to the affected area, causing the skin to peel and be replaced with new skin
  • Photodynamic therapy - light is applied to the skin to improve acne symptoms

It is important to note here that these therapies may not work routinely. A therapy that became a popular internet myth is the application of toothpaste on individual spots. Toothpaste contains antibacterial ingredients and supposedly works to dry up acne spots, but it can also damage the skin and is not recommended.
  • Butylated Hydroxytoluene
  • Hydroxypropylcellulose
  • Ethanol
