Loceryl is an effective antifungal nail lacquer used specifically to treat fungal infections in nails.

Curanail contains the active ingredient Amorolfine Hydrochloride which is an antifungal used to treat fungal infections in the nails. It works by destroying the structure of the fungi cells which stops the overgrowth on the nails.

The treatment does not restore the infected nail. Instead, it promotes a new and healthy growth by eliminating the fungal infection. Therefore treatment can take unto 9 months until the new nail has fully grown out. Treatment should be reviewed every 3 months to ensure there is an improvement in symptoms. If there is no improvement, then you must contact your GP.
The affected nail should be filed down as much as possible and cleaned with a swab to remove any grease. Apply the gel to the entire affected nails with the provided spatula once a week without wiping the excess gel off the spatula on the side of the bottle. Allow the gel to dry for approximately 3 minutes before cleaning the spatula with the swab used before to clean the nails.

Be careful to not use the same nail file for healthy nails and avoid using artificial nails and nail varnish during the treatment.

Treated consistently without any breaks, the treatment of affected fingernails should continue for around 6 months while any affected toenails should be treated for 9-12 months until the nail is regenerated and completed cured. The treatment should be reviewed by a doctor every three months to ensure the treatment is being effective and should be continued.

You can find out more about these symptoms by speaking to your doctor or getting in touch with our experts.
You can speak to your local pharmacist If the look of your nail bothers you or it's painful. They may suggest:
  • Antifungal nail cream – it can take up to 12 months to cure the infection and doesn't always work
  • Nail-softening cream – used for 2 weeks to soften the nail so the infection can be scraped off. The infection is cured when you see healthy nail growing back at the base.

An alternative is to undergo laser treatment, which destroys the fungus. You'll have to pay for it as it's not covered by the NHS. It can be expensive. There's little evidence to show it's a long-term cure as most studies only follow patients for 3 months.

Fungal nail infections develop when your feet are constantly warm and damp. You're more likely to get an infection if you wear trainers for a long time and have hot, sweaty feet. To prevent fungal nail infections:
  • Treat athlete's foot as soon as possible to avoid it spreading to nails
  • Keep your feet clean and dry
  • Wear clean socks every day
  • Wear flip-flops in showers at the gym or pool
  • Throw out old shoes

Avoid the following:
  • Don't wear shoes that make your feet hot and sweaty
  • Don't share towels
